ANZ, Tais Market and Malaysia Embassy's Location - Dec 05

If you have purchased Lonely Planet's East Timor book and the Discover Dili booklet, you have got yourself good guidebooks. I have both of these. The only problem is that East Timor is changing all the time and some of the places have moved(even though both books are pretty new - April and November 2004 editions!).

ANZ Bank is no longer located next to Western Union. It is now located at Rua Belarmino Lobo, near City Cafe. If you are at Hotel Audian, drive straight ahead and turn on the first left turn. You will see Delicious bakery on your left. Keep driving straight and you will see ANZ. The location for Bank Mandiri is shown correctly in the Discover Dili booklet but not in Lonely Planet. So don't get yourself confused.

The Tais(Weaving) Market is not marked out properly in Lonely Planet's East Timor's map but it is clearer in the Discover Dili booklet. However, as you turn into Rua Sebastio Da Costa, you will have to keep on walking ahead until the end before you reach the Tais Market. Otherwise, you might think that you have taken a wrong turn and turn back. Tilpa(Timor Leste Photography Association) is along this road too. It is situated inside the Media Development Centre. Some of their pictures are displayed in this website.

I find it strange that the Malaysian Embassy is not listed in both booklets even though it is among the earliest embassy to be set up in Timor. This could be because it was situated somewhere else before it moved to the Pandai Kelapa road (called Avenida de Portugal in both booklets) with the other embassies. It is at the start of the road in the west(next to the U.S Embassy). The telephone number is: (670) 3321804
