Clothings in Timor? - Jan 06

Some of the clothes at Comoro market

Where do they get their clothes? - Some people(from overseas)wonder whether the average Timorese have clothings and where they buy their clothes from. Well, the average Timorese wear nice clothings and they get them from the market. (It's not as bad as you guys think) This place is call 'Obra' and all the clothes there are second-hand clothes. Comoro market has quite a lot of variety and Taibessi Market has the most clothings.

You will see quite a number of Timorese wearing soccer jerseys and wearing branded shirts/shoes like Nike, Adidas, Armani, DKNY in the streets. Most of them are from the Obra and the vendors get their supplies from the wharf when new containers of clothes come in. The typical price of a shirt is $1 and $5 for jeans in the 'Obra'. Prices in fashion shops are higher but still affordable. If you walked around East Timor, you will also notice quite a number of 'singapore' clothes. I've seen some primary school t-shirts and even one s'pore navy shirt. Here's one of the many -->>
